Stephen Lee, a Hong Kong native, grew up in Seattle Washington USA. He began flute at age 14 and after two years of self-study, he then continued under the tutelage of Wendy Wilhelmi. He holds numerous awards from his high school years, including the Washington State Metro Competition, Seattle Young Artists Festival, Bellevue Young Artists Festival, Horsfall Flute Competition, etc. These accomplishments led to his numerous appearances and live performances at the KING FM classical radio station in Seattle.
Following high school, Stephen became recipient of scholarships to study at the University of Washington with the world-renowned flutist, Professor Felix Skowronek. He became the principal flutist and piccoloist of the UW Symphony Orchestra and the UW Wind Ensemble. Stephen was also the principal flutist of the Seattle Youth Symphony, he performed with many chamber music groups as well. He received his Bachelor Degree in Flute Performance in 2000, and he received his Associate Degrees in Computer Science and Digital Audio Engineering in 2004.
After graduation, Stephen continued his studies with Wendy Wilhelmi and his beloved sister and flutist, Helen Lee. He attended and performed at many flute master class conducted by masters such as James Galway, Andras Adorjan, Alexa Still, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Mary Karen Clardy, Robert Aitken, Robert Langevin, Mathieu Dufour, John Barcellona, Susan Milan, and Jill Filber. Stephen has also performed with Mary Karen Clardy, Chen San Qing and Robert Aitken. After his relocation in early 2007, Stephen has been teaching and performing full time in Hong Kong. He is one of the founding members and group leader of a Hong Kong chamber music group, Opus. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Flute Quartet. |
