Christopher Smith, a native Tucsonan, began playing the flute at age 13. After developing an exuberant interest in flute performance, he joined the Tucson Flute Club (TFC), a group that, for forty years, has helped to foster the love for the flute by sharing their music with the Tucson community. He studied under Bonney Rush Haugen, Sandy Schwoebel, and Phil Swanson. Smith plays flute and piccolo with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra (SASO), and traveled with the group to China during it's 2009-2010 winter tour. He is experienced in performing classical orchestral and solo repertoire, as well as modern and commissioned literature. Smith also performs as the principal flutist with the Pima Community College Wind Ensemble, with the TFC's Southern Arizona Flute Orchestra, and as a freelance flutist with various performing arts groups in the Tucson area. Since 2008, he has served as the Vice President of the Tucson Flute Club, Co-chairing the "Flute Olympics", an athletic themed educational outreach project that took place in January, 2010.
In addition to performing, Chris teaches students of all ages and abilities.
